Trendy hardwood flooring styles are eclectic

There's a hardwood flooring style for every taste. Boards are narrow and wide, long and short. Trendy colors are very light or very dark, but classic medium brown has many fans. Matte and high gloss are popular finishes, while smooth and hand-scraped are favored textures. Central Florida residents can find all the fashionable styles at A & H Floor Covering, Inc.. We invite you to visit our showroom in Casselberry to view hardwood samples and talk to our flooring experts.

Prefinished solid wood flooring

Some solid hardwood flooring is sanded, stained, and sealed in the factory. Installers only need to nail the planks to the subfloor. It's easier to install flooring when planks are prefinished instead of unfinished. But it's important to consider that the floor will have a beveled look rather than a flush look when prefinished solid wood is used. The finish used on the two types of wood flooring also differs. Factories use strong sealers that are not available to on-site installers. Thus, finish warranties on prefinished wood tend to be longer than those on unfinished wood.

Engineered wood flooring

While solid wood planks are milled from one piece of timber, engineered wood planks comprise a plywood and hardwood layer. In particular, the base is manufactured with layers of plywood that are situated in different directions. Because of this composition, the flooring can tolerate moisture. The planks are also designed to click and lock together, so the floor floats above the subfloor. This man-made flooring is a good option for any room in the home. But before placing it in a bathroom, remember that the flooring resists moisture, not standing water.

Unfinished solid wood flooring

The installation process takes two weeks if you opt to have your wood floors installed traditionally. It takes one week to install and finish the raw wood and one week for the new floor to acclimate to its surroundings. With its close-fitting planks and tight and well-sealed seams, this floor covering is ideal for kitchens. A hardwood floor can be expected to last at least 75 years. Unfinished and prefinished solid wood can be refinished often when worn, and engineered wood can be finished once or twice.
