Laminate flooring offers a trendy look

Laminate is a great alternative wood flooring material that looks like more costly floor coverings. Typically, the plank format looks like hardwood, while the tile looks like hardwood, stone, or ceramic. This synthetic flooring, created with high tech images, is almost indistinguishable from the natural materials. Folks in the greater Orlando, Florida area, can find various latest styles at A & H Floor Covering, Inc.. We opened our showroom in Casselberry in 1987.

Lamination process

Laminate flooring has four layers that are bonded together with a lamination process. The image layer is above the fiberboard core, which is protected and supported by the backing layer. The transparent wear layer on the surface of the plank protects the image layer.

Planks

Planks mimic desirable wood species like hickory, oak, maple, and ash. Popular brands feature textures such as hand-scraped and distressed, and classic, smooth planks are always in vogue. Honey, blonde, and grey laminate flooring is trendy, and so are wide and mixed width planks.

Stones

A ceramic and porcelain tile look is as popular as a stone tile look. Favored stones include travertine, granite, slate, sandstone, and marble. Like the planks, tiles are warm and soft underfoot. They need no maintenance beyond routine cleaning.

AC rating

An independent entity assigns every laminate product an abrasion rating. The AC rating makes it easy to judge durability. If the flooring is given an AC3 rating after undergoing tests for resistance to burns, impact, and more, it is appropriate for high traffic areas in the home.

Waterproof laminate

Water pools on the surface of a standard laminate, so it can easily be wiped up with a cloth or mop. It's best to clean up water immediately so it doesn't soak into the core. Waterproof laminate can tolerate water for a given amount of time, usually up to 30 hours.

Installation

Most often, planks and tiles fit together in a click and lock manner so a floating floor can be constructed. Glue-down brands are also available. Underlayment is placed on the subfloor, so the floor is more comfortable to walk on. It also cushions the flooring and muffles noise.
